Digital Fabric Printing FAQ's
Customers are able to order lengths of fabric in 10cm increments with the minimum length being 50cm. Fabrics do have a maximum single piece length and the printable fabric width can vary from fabric to fabric, please click see Fabric Bases for details details. However multiple piece lengths can be ordered if required. If however you wish to order a longer single length than the please contact us to discuss this further.
Printed Fabric Samples
The minimum length of fabric that can be ordered is 0.5m. However you can use our sample service which is strongly recommended before you order longer lengths of fabric as it will give you an indication of how your design works on your chosen fabric. BeFab Be Creative online service gives you this option, the sample size is 20cm long and half the width of the chosen fabric. For our guide to getting the best out of this Click Here
Base Fabric Swatches
'In the Base Fabric section you can see a close up photograph of each of the fabrics we offer in its blank un-printed form. Also you can order one of our Fabric Sample Books, our sample book contains a sample of each of our fabrics with standard printed. This allows you to see the quality of the fabric as well as the quality of our printing.
Fabric Care / Shrinkage
We recommend that all fabrics are dry cleaned, however as part of the finish process fabrics are washed, with minimal detergent, and at a low temperature, if you decide to do this it would be at your own risk.
Our software takes into consideration the fabrics average shrinkage when a design is printed. The size of the image after printing and processing should be the size requested. However please be aware we are working with natural fibres and in some instance shrinkage may vary which we will be unable to account for so please ensure you order sufficent fabric.
File Types and Uploading
Required File Type /Size
We require that you upload/send your image as
- Freshly Created Flattened JPG or TIF
- File size must be less than 50 mb.
- Resolution of your file to be between 150 dpi and 300 dpi - Though in some instances where files are physically large this may not be possible, in these cases you can lower the resolution however we do not recommend any lower than 150 dpi and please be aware this can affect the quality of your print.
RGB Colour Model should be used - We recommend that you work continuously throughout the design process in RGB to obtain the best results. Be aware the design colours showing on your computer monitor may look different to what prints, as every monitor output/calibration differs. In addition the way colour is viewed differs, a monitor emits coloured light e.g. light shines out of the screen, where fabric has 3 dimensional properties e.g. folds and drapes, light passes through and reflects. Even between fabric types there can be subtle variations to colour intensity depending on the fabric type and weight e.g. Silk Chiffon compared to a Cotton Drill. Therefore we strongly recommend that you get a sample printed as this will help you determine whether your colours will print as you expect.
Design Repeat - Our online service allows you to select a Basic Repeat, Half Drop Repeat, Half Brick Repeat, however if you require a more complex repeat please contact us to discuss. Please be aware we do not check if a repeat pattern is seamless, this is the designer's responsibility. If no repeat is stipulated at time of (manual) ordering, basic repeat will be assumed.
Multiply Images - If you require multiple images to be printed onto your chosen fabric it is necessary to create a single image containing the separate elements. This can be done using your picture editing application such as Adobe Photoshop
File Alteration - We do not as part of our process alter / check files received in anyway, we ask that you please please check that your design repeats in all directions if relevant.
File Orientation - the top of your image will sit at the cut end of the fabric, with salvage to left and right of your image.
BeFab Be Creative is purely a printing service, which means we print what you have uploaded/sent without changing your file. We do not check files, the printer software is fully automated.
Matching Print Batches
As with all print mediums, wallpaper being a prime example there is a window of tolerance when it comes to matching print batches, but this should be minimal but needs to be considered when ordering.
